The Grimoire of Sacred Memories is a powerful and dangerous magical artifact created by Shamesh through unknown means. This grimoire grants its wielder the ability to manipulate and erase memories. The book was primarily used by the sea dragon Vida during his reign of terror on Archibast.

Abilities

Basic Memory Manipulation

The grimoire allows its user to extract memories from others, storing them within the book.

Cinnabar Acorn Amplification

When amplified with Cinnabar Acorns, the grimoire’s power becomes exponentially more dangerous and precise:

  • Conceptual Erasure: The user can selectively erase a victim’s understanding of abstract concepts such as love, compassion, loyalty, or their history with an individual.
  • Red-Eyed Wendigo Transformation: Victims who have core concepts erased enter a horrific state where their eyes glow crimson and they become single-mindedly obsessed with killing specific targets
  • Targeted Commands: Affected individuals can only speak repetitive phrases like “Kill (target name)” and will relentlessly pursue their assigned victim
  • Mass Control: Multiple victims can be simultaneously controlled and directed toward different targets

Historical Usage

Vida employed the grimoire for various purposes during his time on Archibast:

  • Memory Blackmail: Threatening to destroy or alter cherished memories to coerce cooperation
  • Psychological Torture: Using stolen traumatic memories against enemies
  • Parental Manipulation: Erasing 100 years of memories from his dragon children to hide his terrible parenting and make them more compliant
  • Strategic Control: Converting key figures like Fritz, Kimo Baja, and others into mind-controlled assassins during his final assault

The grimoire represented one of Shamesh’s most dangerous creations, demonstrating the corrupting potential of divine magic when used for malevolent purposes. Its destruction during the Fists of Mercy’s final confrontation with Vida marked the end of the book with it’s burning.
