Divine Magic is a forbidden form of magic that originates from an otherworldly consciousness rather than personal study or preparation. Its effects manifest as distinctive fractalizing patterns that appear around both the caster and the spell’s aura, serving as an unmistakable signature of its otherworldly source. These patterns instill fear in witnesses unaccustomed to the phenomenon.

Divine magic defies conventional understanding through its reality-altering capabilities. Its healing can fully create new tissue rather than merely accelerating natural processes like conventional magical healing. It can reanimate the dead, control minds, alter time, and reshape reality in ways that traditional magic or shadowbinds cannot achieve.

Oracles are individuals cursed at birth with Divine Magic. Each Oracle’s abilities manifests as a shadowbind. However, unlike regular shadowbinds that originate from the individual’s own psyche, Oracle shadowbinds are bound by an otherworldly consciousness. This external source is what produces the telltale fractalizing patterns and grants their reality-bending power.

On top of possessing powerful shadowbinds, all Oracles can innately learn how to heal or harm the living. They also have the ability to raise or smite the undead. Traditional magic is only capable of puppeteering corpses or skeletons as it would any object and requires active maintenance by the caster, only Oracles can create true zombies with an internal drive to do its master’s bidding (or shamble aimlessly).

Oracles share an inexplicable connection to the Holy Land - immediately recognizing these words with deep significance and almost always experiencing visions or dreams of this mythical place, even if they do not actively seek it.

The Coven is dedicated to destroying all traces of divine magic, hunting down Oracles with such thoroughness that most people are unaware of Divine Magic’s existence. Well-read non-coven members will often refer to it as “Arcadian Magic” when they encounter references to it.

Visual Manifestation

Divine Magic visually manifests as disorienting fractal patterns that serve as its defining characteristic, distinguishing it from all other forms of magic in Hanaq. These patterns appear around both the caster and the magical effects themselves,

Some casters are able to darken the fractals, so that it becomes difficult to make them out, but the fractals can still be faintly seen, making Divine Magic impossible to truly hide from those who know what to look for.

Holy Land

Oracles seem to always have a connection to the Holy Land, their lives touched by fate to encounter it in some way through their visions and dreams.
